Guest of Radio Freccia, Paolo Bettini fondly talked about how he rediscovered the region riding a bicycle and the key role that this means of transport can have in sustainable economic projects.
Paolo Bettini: I call myself a “cycloenogastronome”
When you’re a professional, you don’t have time to raise your head and look around, you just think about the result and the bike is just a means to compete. Although I love this sport, once I stopped I didn’t think that there could be such an important aspect, even when away from racing. Instead, I literally rediscovered the two wheels as an opportunity to fully enjoy everything I have actually always had around. The hills that stretch as far as the eye can see, the perched villages, the cypresses that stretch their shadows on the deserted road and then a sandwich with finocchiona accompanied by a glass of wine: this is the taste of cycling freely.
Cycling tourism for a healthy and sustainable economy
The pandemic has made us reflect on many key points, on what had to be done to restart the tourism sector and, at the same time, enhance a territory that has a lot to offer, such as geothermal energy.
The turnover of cycling tourism is of 500 billion euros in the European Union alone and the bicycle is a fundamental tool to create smart territories where tourists are free to discover the particularity and live unforgettable experiences.
The BikeandTaste project
Cycling and tasting, this is the meaning of bikeandtaste.com. The bicycle is the ideal way to move at the right speed, and with this project we want to create leisurely experiences that allow visitors to be amazed, give themselves a moment of respite so they can look at the beauty that surrounds us with new eyes.
